Things To Know About Republic Day Parade

India will celebrate its 74th Republic Day on January 26, 2023. 

In 1950, on this day, the Constitution of India was implemented in the country. 

On Republic Day 2023, a grand parade will be performed by Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces on the Kartavya Path. 

23 tableaux of states, ministries will be displayed at Republic Day parade. This will be followed by cultural performances by children. 

Republic Day Parade portrays the spirit of the Indian Army and the diverse culture of the country. Here are some interesting facts you must know about the parade. 

While we all know that the parade is organised every year on Kartavya path, DYK that first parade was held at Irwin Stadium (now National Stadium) in New Delhi? 

The first international guest who attended the parade in 1950 was the President of Indonesia, Dr. Sukarno. 

On the day of the parade, 21 Guns Salute is given before the event commences. But, DYK that firing is not done with 21 canons? 

Instead, 7 cannons of the Indian Army, called 25 Ponders, are used for firing in 3 rounds. 

While the parade usually starts at 7.30am, the participants get ready for their performances by 2 am and arrive at the venue by 3 am. 

The preparation of the parade begins in July and by January 26, participants have already practiced for 600 hours before performing. 

Each army personnel who participates in the parade event has to pass through 4 levels of investigation. Their arms should not be loaded with live bullets. 

Apart from the National Anthem, Mahatma Gandhi's favourite song, Abide with me, is played at every Republic Day parade. 

Bravery awards such as Ashoka Chakra, Veer Chakra, Maha Veer Chakra, Param Veer Chakra, and Kirti Chakra are awarded to deserving candidates during the parade.
