Take great pains to do something  Meaning: make a great effort to do something.  E.g.: The athlete took great pains to win the big competition.  

Sweep someone off his/her feet  Meaning: make someone suddenly fall in love with you   E.g.: The breathtaking performance swept the audience off their feet.  

Cast aspersions on someone/ something  Meaning: make critical or insulting remarks about someone/ something.    E.g.: She cast aspersions on his reputation.  

Shoulder the blame/ responsibility  Meaning: take responsibility for something.     E.g.: The athlete shouldered the blame for the loss, even though it was a team effort.
