Rapper PnB Rock fatally shot during robbery at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles
Rapper PnB Rock, best known for his 2016 hit song "Selfish," died Monday after being shot during a robbery at a Los Angeles restaurant
Rock, 30, whose real name is Rakim Allen had been at the restaurant with his gitlfriend. Who'd posted a location-tagged photo in since-deleted instagram post.
He was 30. The victim was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead just before 2 p.m. local time.
A year later, he dropped his debut single, “Fleek,” followed by “Selfish,” which reached No. 16 on the Billboard rap chart and sold more than 3 million copies.
Rock’s burgeoning career was celebrated in 2017 when he was tapped as part of XXL magazine’s popular Freshman Class issue.
A police captain refused to identify Rock, but told the Times that the victim was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m. Security video will be examined to identify the shooter, who fled the scene.
He has collaborated with various artists, including Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Kodak Black, and Chance the Rapper.
Rock was born Dec. 9, 1991 in Philadelphia. He told Paper Magazin he was inspired to make music at age 19 after hearing Drake's decade-defining album "Take Care".
One of his biggest moments came alongside Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci, When the two joined forces in 2016 for the victorious anthem "Everyday We Lit."
The song peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest charting song fir either artist.
According to a law enforcement source, LAPD investinfators are examining security video from inside the restaurant to identify the shooter.
They also are checking surrounding businesses to see whether security systems captured any images of the suspect leaving on foot or in a vehicle.
Rock's ability to blend melodies with his rapping made him a natural fir for hip-hop's next evolution.
He gained national prominence with the 2015 single ""Fleek", turning the viral vine video into an anthem for women doing up their appearance across the country.
He went on to collaborate with a bevy of artists, including ED sheeran and Chance the Rapper on "Cross Me."
